Young Bloood

Burgered! presents to you 'Young Blood' a weekly installment showcasing rising talent who are killing it in the Dj/Producing scene at the moment. Each week we will be bringing to you a new tray of blood and some sounds that will get your burgers flipping and your jaws clenching.
Put some Deep Grimey wobbles together along with a few heavy as fuck basslines, And for our first editon we bring too you up and coming Dubstep Sensation Swiss Dub.
Fresh from his sets at Stereosonic Sydney and the Gentlemans Club on Queenslands Gold Coast, we take a look and introduce to you Wollongongs SwissDub!

Formally apart of Sydney Dj duo 'KnockedUpNoise' (Swiss & Ladooda),main residents at Kings Cross's Candys Apartment, Jon 'Swiss Dub' Byrne decided in 2011to start a solo project and  it was time to start to focus on what he was passionate about... Dubstep!.
Already supporting the likes of Calvertron, FuntCase, Caspa and Datsik just to name a few Swiss has gone to another level and really one you should be keeping your eye on.
We caught up with Jon during the week to find out his side of the Story...

Where did the love for Djaying come from ? How did it all begin?

My love for Djing came when one of my friend's bought his own set up around 2-3 years ago (Ruslan).
I was already making shithouse music on FL studio's and probaly felt that learning to dj would probaly be the next step, so i saved up a bit of coin and got my self some cdj 400's which i still use.

Coming from a small town on the coast, Was it hard to get your first gig? Take us through it When and where did you start off?

Yeah at the time i wasn't really into the whole clubbing scene, id never been to a sydney club before,
new no body in the scene at all accept for some mates (Slipperwhenwet dj's)
that had just started out at a club in kings cross (Candy's Apartment).
Me and one of my good child hood friends (Ladooda) just said if either of us get a gig in a club we'd do it together, which is how Knocked Up Noise started. We made it up to a few of the events that Candy's did that SWW were playing at, and one night we just got a mix together took it up, and with the help of our friend's we got our very first gig at Candy's organised!

Starting off playing electro/dance music what were your main influences growing up, what got you and your mates into dj/producing?

Back then my main influences would of been everyone on the Pottymouth music Label, like Mightyfools, Electric Soulside, Foamo, Hijack, Kyle Watson. And starting to produce happened by chance maybe just under 4 years ago my older brother was doing a short music course at tafe, and the class was given a copy of FL studio. He had no interest in it and gave it to me and i just started watching youtube
video after youtube video working out what i was supposed to do with it. Eventually worked out it was used to make electronic music.

You have a few originals and remixes done, Describe a Swiss Dub track process,
where do u find motivation What helps you getting it finished?

Starting is deffinatly the easiest part, i usually just open up Logic with no plan and start making the drums
and work my way down the track from there. i find if i go in with a plan in my head, i get to frustrated if i cant do something exactly how i hear it in my end, which usually ends with me deleting the track all together.
Finishing a track is a hit and miss thing, sometimes ill start a track and have it finished 5 hours later,
then on the other hand ive got tracks that have been sitting on my desktop for 8 months waiting to be finished.

Have you got anything your working on atm?

Yep! Im working on a few bootlegs, a remix for a label and also working on an original as we speak.

Playing at Stereosonic recently, that must have been a highlight in your career, Sharing the stage with massive names, like Caspa and Datsik, How did you find that?

Yeah stereosonic has deffinatly been the biggest highlight. It was awesome, completely diferent to a club gig. In a club the focus isnt so much on the dj,
but people just getting drunk ad having a good time, but at a festival almost everyone in the crowd is staring at you,
and playing just before bombs away the crowd quickly started to grow towards the end of my set, so it was a pretty nervous gig,
but still enjoyed it alot!

So would that have been your best or most memorable gig you have ever played?

There has deffinatly been a few gigs that have been super fun. but i think the ones that take the cake,
are when The Gentlemans Club from QLD gets me up to play at their event Dub L Drop.
They are a super cool bunch of dudes, and they throw a wicked party!

You played the Gentlemans Club on the weekend, whats the crowd like up there towards Dubstep?

Im not to sure about the Brisbane scene, but as far as i know Dub L Drop is the only dubstep event in the Coolangatta area, and yeah the crowd are awesome, they are one of the main reason's its my favorite place to play!

Whats the craziest thing youve seen behind the decks?

One of the craziest things ive seen took place on one of Audiopaxx's Shipfaced Harbor Cruises.
Alot of the guys in the crowd came from a hardcore backround, and about 10 min's into my set a circle pit opened up!, It just turned into a big mosh pit for the remainder of the set, dj table was almost being knocked over etc etc.

If you were going for a night out what artists would you wanna go see? What artists are you digging at the moment?

Really loving anything by Roksonix, its a little bit diffrent to what everyone else is doing, they arnt going for the heaviest twisted bass sounds, their tracks are pretty upbeat and fun. And id deffinatly like to see them live. Another guy id love to see live would be Breakage, his stuff is really chilled.
And also a shoutout to a sydney producer Bonz, he is virtually unknown as far as other dj's and label's go, but his stuff is banging, he will blow up soon!

How do u think the Dubstep scene has changed in the past few years, What artists are influencing this?

Over the last few years some people hate it, some love it but thats what happens to a genre, it keeps changing and people want it to stay the same.
Peoplle have strong views on this so i wont say to much or ill probaly get a fuck load of hate haha. but to what dubstep is today, obviously skrillex has been a big influence.

What is planned for Swiss Dub in the near future?

My main focus is to clean up my production and get all that to a high standard, and would also love to be able to live off my music eventually.

And Finally where can we find Swiss Dub Playing @ next?

You can catch me at the Dublife events in wollongong, the courtyard parties at ivy all the Shipfaced cruises,
and have my debut gig at chinese laundry in late january.
Also a shoutout to AusDjForums.com They have a awesome comunity for dj's and producers starting out as well as anyone who's into the industry.
They have been a big help!
